Aluminum cans for the Animal Shelter are to be taken to the home of Kay and James Poplin, 103 Oak St. and placed behind the house between the house and the cedar-sided building. Do not take the cans to the Animal Shelter. Wild animals or wind open the bags and they are scattered.

Rev. Henry Easley will be the guest speaker for revival services at Trinity Baptist Church August 7-11, 7:30 p.m.

The quarterly blood drive sponsored by the Wills Memorial Hospital Auxiliary in conjunction with Shepeard Community Blood Center will be held Thursday, August 18, 2-7 p.m., at the Pope Community Center on Lexington Avenue.

The Lions Club will have chicken barbecue plates for sale on Saturday, August 6, 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Cost is $6 per plate and they may be picked up during that time. Tickets are available from any member of the Lions Club or by calling Lions President Mary Hubbard at 6782422. Booker’s Chapel Baptist Church will have homecoming on Sunday, August 7, 12 noon. Bishop L. Dante Smith will deliver the sermon and music will be by the New Bethlehem Gospel Choir of Oglethorpe County. Dinner will be served.

The Cherry Grove Baptist Church will have homecoming on Sunday, August 7, 11:30 a.m., with Rev. David Cobb of Atlanta as the speaker. Evangelist Gladys Ferguson will be MC and the New Spiritual Six of Crawfordville will be guests.

Roy Thomas, pastor of Wagnor Grove Baptist Church in Athens, will be the evangelist for the week.

New South Productions will have auditions for the “Postmarked Wilkes County” drama on Thursday, August 4, 7 p.m., at the Mary Willis Library. Donna Harrington will be the director and there is a need for adults, teenagers, and children’s parts. The drama will be presented in conjunction with Mule Day at Callaway Plantation October 78. It has a new and improved script and requires more actors.

“Fashions From a Victorian Attic” is the exhibit now on display at the Washington Historical Museum featuring fashions from the mid-1800s to the turn of the 20th century. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sundays from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. There is a small admission charge.

Stevens Grove Baptist Church on the Stevens Grove Church Road, five miles south of Lexington off Hwy. 78, will have homecoming Sunday, August 7. Rev. Bob Nash of Athens will be the speaker for the 11 a.m. service. A covered dish luncheon will be shared in the fellowship hall following the service.
