Bevelyn Durham McCommons

Funeral services for Bevelyn Durham McCommons, 70, of Union Point were held Saturday, November 19, 2005, at the First Baptist Church, Union Point, with Rev. Leonard Ezell, Rev. Jim Olds, and Patrick Tice officiating. Interment was in Bethesda Baptist Church Cemetery. She died suddenly on Wednesday, November 16.

Mrs. McCommons was a native of Taliaferro County and was the daughter of the late Carson Gordon Durham and the late Lottie Lenora Lunsford Durham. She was the widow of Robert S. “Bobby” McCommons. She was a 1957 graduate of Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville and was a homemaker and member of Bethesda Baptist Church of Union Point. She served many civic organizations, including being past president of the Union Point Garden Club, past Azalea District Director of The Garden Club of Georgia, and was a member of the Azalea District Board and the Board of the State Garden Club of Georgia Inc. She was chairman of the governing board of the Union Point Community Center; past president of the Greene County Historical Society; charger member of the Pilot Club of Greene County; charter member and past president of the Wayside Home Chapter of the Georgia Division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy; past district director of the Georgia Division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and past president of the Georgia Chapter of the American Mothers association. She was active in the Greene County and State Farm Bureau; and an active member of the Minnie G. Boswell Hospital Foundation.

Survivors include three sons, Ricky McCommons, Union Point, Mike McCommons, Union Point, and Tim McCommons and his wife Susan of Bishop; and three grandchildren, Stephen McCommons, Hailey McCommons, and Holly McCommons.

Pallbearers included Joe Durham, Bobby Durham, Douglas Durham, Melvin Durham, Steve Durham, and Brad Hamner. Honorary pallbearers included Charles Copelan, Bay Jones, Malcolm Callaway, Harold Lunsford, Jerry Hackney, and Madison Huff.

McCommons Funeral Home of Greensboro was in charge of arrangements.
