Wilkes schools hold open house; some 1,750 students start Friday

Wilkes County schools are holding open house today in preparation for the arrival of some 1,750 students Friday as classes begin for the 2006-2007 school year.

Open house for rising juniors and seniors at Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School was held Wednesday afternoon; ninth and tenth graders have open house today from 1 to 3 p.m. At the open house, students can

pick up their fall semester schedules from their homeroom teachers, and visit their academic teachers to get acquainted and get information on required supplies.

More than 385 middle schoolers will have the chance to visit at the W-WMS open house today from 2 to 4 p.m. to meet teachers and get ready for Friday's first day of school. Supply lists will be available from each teacher.

Washington-Wilkes Elementary School will welcome 360 Pre-K, fourthand fifth-grade students at an open house this afternoon from 1 to 3 p.m. A more in-depth open house will be held in conjunction with the first PTG meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday night, August 15. Pre-K parents will meet that night at 6:30.

The most students in Wilkes County - about 520 - will start classes Friday at WashingtonWilkes Primary School after today's drop-in open house between 2 and 4 p.m. Students can meet their teachers, get acquainted with their classrooms, and parents can talk to the teachers about students' bus information or transportation arrangements.

And school starts at 7:50 Friday morning.
