Roy L. Akins

Funeral services for Roy L. "Bucky" Akins, 75, of Statesboro were held Thursday, July 27, 2006, in the chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home, Statesboro. Burial was in Eastside Cemetery. He died Monday, July 24, at Heritage Inn Nursing Home in Statesboro.

Mr. Akins was a native of Bulloch County and was a graduate of Statesboro High School and the University of Georgia. He was the retired owner of the W.C. Akins & Son Hardware Store. He was a member of the Statesboro Bulldog Club and a member and past president of the Statesboro Sigma Chi Alumni Association. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Army. He was a former president of the Statesboro Jaycees and was of the Primitive Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Anne Jones Akins of Statesboro; two sons and daughtersin law, Roy and Kay Kay Akins of Statesboro, and Tom and Gina Akins of Wrightsville; a daughter and sonin law, Mary Lois and Jack Newsome of Washington; and five grandchildren, Tyler Akins, Harrison Akins, Hannah Akins, Graham Wolfe, and Kohen Wolfe.

Pallbearers included Solly Trapnell, Richard Williams, Dennis Akins, Arnold Ray Akins, Michael Johnson, and Bill Akins.

Members of the Sigma Chi Fraternity served as honorary pallbearers.
