Easter Sunday Services

Many Wilkes County churches will be having special services on Easter Sunday, March 23, and during the days leading to Easter.

Lenten lunches are scheduled Thursday at 12 noon at the First United Methodist Church; and on Friday at the First Baptist Church.

Maundy Thursday services will be held at the Washington Presbyterian Church Thursday, March 20, at 7 p.m., with Rev. Glen Kohlhagen as the minister and Holy Communion will be observed. Others will be held at Ebenezer Baptist Church, at 7 p.m.; and at the Episcopal Church of the Mediator at 6 p.m.

The Church of the Mediator will have meditations every half hour on Friday, March 21.


Sunrise services will be held on Easter Sunday at many area churches. Wilkes Ministers United will sponsor a sunrise service on The Square at 7 a.m., with breakfast to follow at the First United Methodist Church.

First Baptist Church will have a sunrise service at 7 a.m. in the church park, followed by breakfast in the fellowship hall.

Other sunrise services include, Solomon Pool, 6 a.m.; Brinkley Chapel, 6 a.m.; Clifford Grove Baptist, Rayle, 7 a.m.; New Salem Baptist, 6 a.m.; Phillips Mill Baptist, 8:30 a.m., followed by breakfast; Ebenezer Baptist, 7:20 a.m.


Other services on Sunday include a covered dish dinner and

Easter egg hunt at Clifford's Grove Baptist Church, Lundberg; pancakes and sausage at Tignall Baptist Church at 8:30 a.m.; and a special musical, "Guilty of Love," at County Line Baptist Church at 11 a.m.

First Baptist Church, Washington, will feature special music during

the morning

worship service at 11 a.m. The Senior Choir will sing "He Is Not Here, He Is Risen," and a selection from "Once Upon A Tree," "He Is Risen, Hallelujah." The handbell choir will also be ringing during the service.

The Church of the Mediator will have its Festival Easter Day service at 11:15 a.m.

"The Seven Last Sayings of Christ" will be presented on Good Friday, March 21, 11 a.m., at the Third Shiloh Baptist Mission Center. Rev. G.L. Avery is the narrator for the program coordinated by Bishop L. Dante Smith.

Members of the First United Methodist Church will be hosts for an "Upper Room Experience" on Thursday, March 20. See a related article in this paper for details.
