Tennis tournament to be held at Liberty St. Park Sept. 6-7

The Washington-Wilkes Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a double elimination tennis tournament on September 6-7.

The tournament will be held at the Liberty Street Park beginning at 4 p.m.

There are two age divisions: youth, 14-18 years old; and adult, 19 years old and up.

Each person entered in the tournament is required to pay a $7 fee at the time of qualifying to help defer the cost of trophies.

Persons who wish to participate in the tournament must qualify no later than September 5 by calling the recreation department at 706-678-1454. Persons planning to compete in the doubles division must provide their own partner. The recreation department will not pair individuals.

There will be competition in both singles and doubles. The best two of three sets using no-add system will be used in all matches. In case of rain, the tournament will be rescheduled at a later date. There will be no refunds after qualifying.

Awards will be given to the winners of the first place singles and first place doubles.

Good sportsmanship will be expected and demanded of all parto ticipants, coaches, and spectators. Players, coaches, and spectators are reminded to refrain from making derogatory comments or using action to opposing players, coaches, or teams calculated to make a misplay.
