Market Days Street Festival has hot musical lineup for Oct. 25

The musical lineup has been announced for the second annual Market Days 2008 Street Festival set for Saturday, October 25, in downtown Washington.

The line-up for the festival includes four Athens-based music groups: The Corduroy Road, The Brothers Marler, The Revival, and The Stick'Em Ups, said Bradley Barber, event coordinator, along with a performance by The Mason Jars from Evans.

"We are thrilled to have such a fantastic line-up of talented musicians this year," he said. "This line up has got every music lover covered! From bluegrass to soul to full-fledged Americana, the live music performances for the 2008 Festival will have great diversity."

The festival will have music all day, Barber said. "Each band will perform for one hour back-to-back for the length of the festival. Also, each of the musicians playing is featured on the 'Live at the Washington Farmers Market' compilation CD which makes its debut at this year's festival, so music fans will have something to take home with them," said Barber.

Washington is becoming special for musicians. "We are very excited to get back to Washington for an event like this," said Drew Carmen of The Corduroy Road. "We haven't experienced this type of audience anywhere - it's like playing a real concert and not just being background noise."

He and band mate Dylan Solise first discovered Washington when they booked a gig playing at the Washington Farmers Market this summer. "The local music-lovers support in Washington was unbelievable," said Drew. "People that came to the Washington Farmers Market the night we played truly came to listen to the music. At times, we played before a hushed crowd, which is rare for us - to play venues that have such a captivated audience. It was a humbling and sincere experience."

The Market Days Street Festival is an annual event that celebrates regional merchants throughout the Southeast. Over 75 vendors and a crowd of 3,500 are expected at this year's event, Barber said.

The Market Days 2008 Street Festival is sponsored by WJBF ABC News Channel 6 Augusta, Old South Marketing & Public Relations, Tink's Grass-Fed Beef, The Washington Downtown Development Authority, Washington First Inc., Barnett Southern, The Washington Wilkes Parks and Recreation Department, and the Washington Farmers Market.
