Louise Hopkins Mulkey Phelps

Funeral services for Louise Hopkins Mulkey Phelps, 92, of Old Lexington Road, Athens, formerly of Washington, were held Saturday, March 28, 2009, at the Clifford's Grove Baptist Church. Interment was in the church cemetery. She died Wednesday, March 25, at her home.

Mrs. Phelps was a native of Wilkes County and was the daughter of the late John David Hopkins and the late Mary Jane Brown Hopkins. She was the widow of Thomas F. Mulkey and Bennie Phelps She was a member of the Wesleyan Chapel Church and was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Reid, and his wife Tina; two daughters, Barbara and Jerry Edwards, and Kathy and Jimmy Cranford; three sisters, Lucille Bailey, Mary Bell Adkinson, and Elsie Rogers; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers included Ken Edwards, Keith Edwards, Jeff Cranford, Mark Adams, Matt Stephens, and Tom Mulkey.

Hopkins Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
