Wilkes County man arrested, charged with growing pot

A Wilkes County man has been arrested and charged with growing marijuana after a raid last week of his Lexington Road home.

Wilkes County Sheriff Mark Moore said that a search of the home of Julian Kenneth “Ken” Hardin, 53, at 3937 Lexington Road last Wednesday revealed some 34 marijuana plants, a quantity of prescription drugs, $50,000 in cash, and 65 firearms.

The search warrant was served by Sheriff’s deputies and agents of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.

Hardin was taken into custody at his home. He was charged with manufacturing marijuana, possession of marijuana more than one ounce, possession of firearms during the commission of a crime, possession of oxycodone, and possession of hydrocodone.

The drugs were taken by the DEA,

Moore said, while the ATF agents seized the firearms.

A first appearance hearing was held on the state charges, and Hardin was released on $100,000 bond.
