Eighth graders taking the ITBS; first school dance held on Oct. 26

W-WMS eighth-grade students have been taking the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. The first day of testing was November 7 and testing will end on November 11. Progress reports went home with students on November 9.

The boy’s basketball team tryouts were held and this year’s team consists of the following players: Jaquavious Blackburn, Octavious Cofer, Marquez Evans, Miles Gartrell, DeAndre Harris, Tony Jones, Kemble Laguines, Demarco Norman, Mil Shedd, Kentonda Starks, and Jordan Thompson. Team managers are Quarterez Williams and Jarius Ferrell. Coaches for the team are Jeff Finch and Arthur Crew. The Washington-Wilkes Middle School basketball teams played their first games on November 3 against Lincoln County. The girls won with a score of 25 to 24, and the boys won with a score of 40 to 20.They will play in Lincoln County on November 9, and then play in Warren County on November 12.

The Student Council sponsored the first school dance of the school year on October 26. Other club news includes a coat drive being sponsored by FBLA. The drive began on October 24 and ended November 4.

As another wonderful week at W-WMS went by, we interviewed Coach Tony C. Jay. He enjoys being at this school and being a part of the community. He is the teacher for in school suspension (ISS). He attended college at Shorter University. Coach Jay’s academic goal for students is for them to stay motivated, follow rules, and behave in their classrooms to learn. This is his first year teaching.
