Learning about different cultures

Washington-Wilkes Primary School third graders in Nicole Smith’s class have been reading a variety of literature with emphasis on different cultures. The story “Jalapeno Bagels,” written by Natasha Wing, revolves around a boy who brings in a dish to represent his family culture in honor of International Day. Much like the Hispanic character in the story, third grader Juana Rico, pictured above with Shaniya Cain, Eduardo Escotia-Sandoval and Ahmad Williams, recently shared her family culture by serving empanadas to her classmates. Juana also compared her experiences with that of the character in the story – a great cultural learning experience for all!
