The Washington-Wilkes Sons of the American Revolution has been busy placing flags on the graves of Revolutionary War Soldiers in the four-county area in recognition of Veterans Day November 11.

Members, Don Thomas, president, and Thad Broome, recently placed a flag at the gravesite of Revolutionary War veteran and ancestor of Thad Broome, Purnall Truitt.

Truitt assisted in establishing American Independence in the Revolutionary War from 1778-1780 at which time he was wounded. Patriot Truitt served all the way from Delaware to North Carolina .Truitt and his wife were pillars of the community.

The W-WSAR is encouraging all organizations and citizens to take time to remember and to thank our veterans for all the sacrifices they have made for our great nation. They also ask citizens to join them in placing a flag on a veteran’s grave or to simply say “thank you” to a veteran.
