The Wilkes County Board of Education regular meeting time changes beginning with the January meeting on Monday, January 27. The meeting time is now set at 2 p.m. each month. A schedule of all 2014 meetings may be found in this issue.

Cherry Grove Baptist Church will hold a Watch Night service with Lyonsville Baptist Church beginning at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, December 31. Rev. Garnie Shorter will deliver the message.

The Wilkes County Branch of the NAACP will hold its annual Emancipation Celebration at noon on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2014, at the G.L. Avery Third Shiloh Mission Center. Third Shiloh Association Vice Moderator Paul Hull will be the keynote speaker.

Jackson Chapel A.M.E. Church will hold its annual Men’s and Women’s Day program on Sunday, January 26, at 3:30 p.m. Guest speakers will include Rev. Nathaniel and evangelist Robyn Kendricks and the choir of New Zion Hill A.M.E. Church of Thomson.

The New Saints C.M.E. Church Watch Night service will be held on Tuesday, December 31, from 10 p.m.-midnight. Rev. Charles Henderson will deliver the message and “House of Prayer” will provice songs and music.

Brinkley Chapel Baptist Church will hold a Watch Night service beginning at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, December 31. Rev. Timothy Bell and Rev. Edward Morgan will be the speakers.

A Watch Night service will begin at Clifford Grove Baptist Church on December 31, at 10:30 p.m.

Carter’s Grove Baptist Church will hold a New Year’s Eve Celebration, Tuesday, December 31, from 9 p.m.-midnight. The public is invited to attend for praise and worship, special singing and music, snack food and refreshments, a New Year’s message, and candlelight communion at midnight. The Virtuous Women of Praise will present a “Reunion Concert” at Springfield Baptist Church on Saturday, December 28, in a special event free to the public. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. The church is located at 312 Church Street in Washington.

A Watch Night service will be held at Springfield Baptist Church on December 31 beginning at 10 p.m. with Rev. Lance Pitts directing.

On Tuesday, December 31, at 10 p.m., New Ford Baptist Church will host the annual Watch Night Services for the five church consortium which includes New Ford, Trinity, Reeves Chapel, Pole Branch, and Thankful Baptist churches. The community is invited to participate.

The W-W Toastmasters Club will have its regular meetings on January 6 and 13 at the Mary Willis Library from 6-7:15 p.m.. Members of the Wilkes, Lincoln, and McDuffie communities who are age 18 and above and desire to improve their public speaking and leadership skills are invited to attend and participate.

Members of the Washington Wilkes High School Class of 1973 are invited to a class meeting on New Year’s Day, Wednesday, January 1, at 3 p.m. at the Upscale Community Center located at 154 Whitehall Street in Washington.

The Gibson Grove Baptist Church Pastor Support Anniversary will be held Sunday, December 29, at 2:30 p.m.

Mark’s Tabernacle Baptist Church will hold its installation service for pastor-elect Rev. Larry L. Hill on the first Sunday in January, January 5, at 2 p.m. The public is invited. Dinner will be served in the Third Shiloh’s Rev. G. L. Avery Center after the service.

Mount Carmel Baptist Church holds prayer meeting from 6:30-7 p.m. followed by Bible study until 8 p.m. every Thursday evening. The public is invited.
