Friends of Library plan membership meeting for Feb. 12

The Friends of the Mary Willis Library will hold their annual membership meeting on Thursday, February 12, at 3 p.m. in the meeting room of the library. The featured speaker will be G. Richard Hoard, pastor of the Oconee River Church in Watkinsville and the author of several books.

Hoard’s first book, Alone Among the Living, is a memoir he wrote about his father, Floyd “Fuzzy” Hoard, who was the Solicitor General of the Piedmont Circuit and was killed by the Dixie Mafia in a car bomb incident in 1967. The late Mr. Hoard had made it the goal of his elected office to break up the large gangs who were active in his jurisdiction.

“The Friends of the Mary Willis Library are pleased to offer a speaker of Richard Hoard’s caliber to our community,” said Elizabeth Crabbe, adding that past and present members are invited to attend, as well as members of the public.
