Washington-Wilkes Tiger wrestlers ended the team part of their season recently with wins over Westside, ARC, and Greenbrier, completing “another wonderful season” and finishing with the impresive record of 15-5-1 record.

The Tigers started the state area traditional tournament at Strong Rock Christian High School where athletes finishing in the top four qualified to move on to the State Sectionals tournament last weekend. Six Tigers made the cut including (in their weight classes) Bailey Brock, area champion; Sergio Rodriquez, area runner-up; Terrell Derricott and Rodney Binns, third place; Matt Shedd, fourth; and Quindarius Smith who will be an alternate by virtue of his fifth place finish.

Saggus expressed his thanks to Principal Robert Wheeler, Assistant Principal Michael Jones, and Coach Chad Alligood for all their support.

Younger wrestlers have also concluded their wrestling season and competed at Riverside Military School late in January.

“The young Tigers had a great season this year,” Saggus commented.

Most of the matches were at Harlem High School and the young Tigers went there twice this year and did very well. They wrestled Harlem, Greenbrier, and Augusta Christian, and the only loss for the Tigers was to Oglethorpe County.

The young wrestlers did their best wrestling at the end of the season against Riverside Military and at the Middle School Harlem Wrestling Tournament. All of the young Tigers wrestling at Harlem placed in the top four or better in the tournament.

Coach Dywane Hampton offered thanks to thank all the parents, Principal Deleki Lee, Dr. Hilton, and Alligood for all of their support.
