Winning streaks propel Tigers into Region 7 tournament play

GIAN DAVIS GETS AROUND A DEFENDER. GIAN DAVIS GETS AROUND A DEFENDER. Both the Washington-Wilkes Tiger boys and girls have finished the regular basketball season with fantastic winning streaks (seven and six, respectively) as they prepare to enter the Region 7A tournaments which began on Tuesday of this week.

The girls played at GMC on Tuesday against Twiggs County but the game was not over before this edition of The News-Reporter went to press. The boys play on Wednesday at Stratford Academy against Wilkinson County but also too late for reporting in this edition.

The Tiger boys closed out their regular season with a come-from-behind win over the Screaming Devils of Warren County. Head Coach Terrence Pendleton posted his comments on the game on Facebook as follows:

“Let me tell you a little about this squad and the game we played tonight. After being down 15 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, these boys battled back to win their game by one point over Warren County. Crazy stat for tonight ... we didn’t shoot any free throws until the fourth quarter. We shot 10 total for the game to their 24. After some clutch offensive plays, some great defense, and great effort we took the lead with 3.0 left in the game to win 63-62. So proud of these boys and the way they remained calm and didn’t let adversity take them out of their game. Great win fellas!! With that being said ... It’s tournament time!”
