W-WPRD track stars bring home medals from the state meet

Earlier this month, 17 Washington Wilkes Parks and Recreation Department athletes competed in the state meet held at East Jackson High School. Four of those athletes received awards for their performances, include one gold medal.

Brandon Diaz, took first place in the 13-14-year-old boys 1,600-meter run.

Zion Bankston too fourth place in the 7-8-year-old girls softball throw.

Alayah Wynn too seventh place in the 9-10-year-old girls softball throw.

Jordan Knox, too seventh place in the long jump.

“We are proud to say we are GRPA 2018 State Champions in the13-14- year-old boys 1,600m,” W-WPRD Director Alvin Jones said.

Previously this season, the 32 W-WPRD track and field athletes competed in the district meet at Monroe Area High School and captured seven gold medals, 17 silver medals, and six bronze medals.
